Woman Leaves $6 Million to Gallaudet

December 19, 2007 - 7:51am
WASHINGTON (AP) - Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., has received more than $6 million from a Fredericksburg woman who left the bulk of her estate to the university for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Virginia May Binns, a bacteriologist, was 89 when she died last year.

The money will be used to help fund a new language and communication center at the school.

Gallaudet President Robert Davila says the school is fortunate to receive significant gifts from Binns and others like her who recognize its prestige and impact on communities worldwide, even though they did not attend the school.
