Progress Made on Rock Creek Parkway

November 19, 2007 - 1:36pm
Adam Tuss, WTOP Radio

WASHINGTON -- It has been a sore spot for plenty of drivers: the ongoing construction on Rock Creek Parkway, but progress is being made.

The construction that shutdown middle lanes between Virginia Avenue and the 'K' Street ramp is finished. The Federal Highway Administration, which is overseeing the project, says a median is now there and two lanes are running both northbound and southbound around it.

This has helped untie the some of the congestion.

But don't get too excited because plenty of work remains.

Pretty soon, the northbound lanes from Virginia Avenue up to 'P' Street will have to be repaved. That will translate into closures.

The parking lot at Thompson's Boat Center also remains closed and is expected to stay that way until the end of November, while it is renovated.

The entire project is slightly behind schedule, but still expected to wrap up by spring of next year.
