Maryland man arrested after chase in Massachusetts

BURLINGTON, Mass. (AP) — A Maryland man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing Massachusetts police, trying to run down one officer, and striking three cars, including a police cruiser.

Robert Haught of College Park, Maryland, is facing attempted murder and other charges following the chase that started at about 7 p.m. Monday.

He was held overnight and faces arraignment Tuesday.

Police say the chain of events started when an officer on patrol noticed an empty but idling minivan in a disabled parking spot at the Burlington Mall. The license plates did not belong to the vehicle.

A man jumped in the van and took off, at one point driving at an officer directing traffic. The officer opened fire but did not strike anyone.

Police say Haught had credit cards and electronics in his vehicle.
