Prince George’s fire crew rescues scared dog with help of biscuits

WASHINGTON — A box of Milk-Bone biscuits came in handy for a Prince George’s County fire crew Thursday morning as they worked to rescue a dog stuck in a small hole.

The crew from Hyattsville Fire/EMS Station 801 was called after a 13-year-old German Shepard named Ellis took a wrong step during the strong thunderstorms that came through Prince George’s County Wednesday night.

As he was roaming his backyard, Ellis fell into a crawl space opening the led under the house. He was unable to jump out and there was barely enough room for him to stand.

A neighbor found Ellis trapped in the hole Thursday morning and called emergency responders.

One of the crew members tried to rescue Ellis from the hole but he was just out of reach.

So rescuers coaxed Ellis closer with a box of Milk-Bone biscuits that Battalion Chief Michael Linynsky keeps on hand.

The crew member was able to grab Ellis and pull him out of the hole. They gave Ellis a few more treats before the neighbor took him for a walk.

The crew members included; Acting Battalion Chief Michael Linynsky, Fire Lieutenant Greg Mangum, Fire Technician William “Wild Bill” Serra, Fire Fighter Ryan Shipp, Probationary Firefighter Frederick Clarke, Volunteer Fire Fighter Henry Sullivan and Volunteer Fire Fighter Melvin Wright.
