Prince George’s County police officer shoots, kills man after altercation

WASHINGTON – A Prince George’s County police officer shot and killed a man early Wednesday morning following a confrontation.

Police say authorities received a call at about 2 a.m. reporting that a woman was screaming, “Get off me!”

When police responded to the 3800 block of Twin Lakes Drive in Calverton, Md., they found an injured woman and a man. The man fled from the scene, but officers pursued him.

When authorities caught up with the man, there was a confrontation that led an officer to shoot and kill him, police say. The details of the confrontation are not yet clear and officials have not released the name of the man who died.

Emergency responders treated the woman at the scene. She is expected to be OK.

The officer who killed the man is a seven-year veteran of the Prince George’s County Police Department. He was not injured.

Officials are investigating the shooting.
