1 arrested in Metro car theft, chase

UPDATE: Saturday – 2/16/2013, 9:30pm ET – Police have arrested a man who stole a car from a Metro station and then led police on a brief chase.

Isom Cooper, 49, was arrested at a Van Dorn Street hotel by Fairfax County police. He was charged with auto theft and other charges are possible.

Metro Transit Police say Cooper stole a Pontiac from the Addison Road station in Prince George’s County, Md., and then drove across the Wilson Bridge into Virginia.

Police searched for Cooper for several hours after he fled from a shopping center parking lot on Van Dorn Street. Police dogs and helicopters were called in to hunt for Cooper.

EARLIER: Saturday – 2/16/2013, 7:09pm ET – WASHINGTON – The driver of a car stolen from a Prince George’s County Metro station led police on a short chase through Alexandria Saturday morning and police are still looking for the driver.

Metro Transit Police say a man stole a car from the Addison Road station in Prince George’s County, Md., about 7:10 a.m. Police tracked the vehicle to a shopping center parking lot on Van Dorn Street in Alexandria, Va.

But the man fled from police in the car, abandoning it along a ramp to the Capital Beltway near Van Dorn Street. He then ran on foot, police say.

Virginia police and transit police continue to look for the man. He is described as a black man in his mid to late 40s, weighing about 170 pounds. He has a bald head and facial hair. He was wearing glasses, a black T-shirt and possibly wearing a canvas jacket.

Police say he also has a “growth” on the side of his neck, similar to an Adam’s apple.
