WASHINGTON – A local police officer who was credited with saving the lives of several people during a fire earlier this week is now facing accusations of police brutality.
Cpl. Ricky Adey was one of two Prince George’s County Police officers who helped to rescue seven people from a burning building in District Heights Tuesday night.
But an incident that happened last summer in Capitol Heights is now tarnishing his reputation.
Adey is accused of assaulting a 13-year-old boy who was running from police during an Aug. 4, 2011 altercation, Prince George’s police chief Mark Magaw says.
“[It] makes you disappointed that this came up now, especially on top of what he did the other day to save members of our community,” he says.
He is being charged one count of first degree assault, one count of second degree assault and one count of misconduct, according to charging documents obtained by WJLA.
Adey has also been suspended from duty.
