Box office top 20: ‘Fault’ sees stars with $48M

NEW YORK (AP) — The teenage romance “The Fault in Our Stars,” adapted from John Green’s best-seller, easily outshined Tom Cruise’s sci-fi action film “Edge of Tomorrow” with an impressive $48 million debut. The much-bigger-budget “Edge of Tomorrow” opened in third place with $28.8 million.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Rentrak, are:
