Va. bluesman John Cephas honored with marker

BOWLING GREEN, Va. (AP) — The late blues guitarist John Cephas is being remembered with a Virginia historical marker.

The marker will dedicated June 21 in Bowling Green, where the Washington, D.C., native was a longtime resident. He died in 2009.

Born in 1930, Chephas played a guitar style known as Piedmont Blues. It involved a complex finger-picking style. He performed at rural dance parties and as a gospel singer.

The Caroline County dedication will be followed by a performance from musicians.

The historical marker was issued by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources.
