Life term upheld for killer of guitarist’s mother

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A state appeals court has upheld the life sentence for a man who killed two Southern California women three decades ago, including the mother of guitarist Dave Navarro.

City News Service says the 2nd District Court of Appeal upheld John Riccardi’s sentence Thursday.

Riccardi was convicted of killing his estranged girlfriend, Connie Navarro, and her friend Sue Jory in 1983 at a West Los Angeles condominium.

Navarro’s son, Dave Navarro, played with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane’s Addiction. He was 15 when his mother was killed.

Riccardi originally was sentenced to death for the murders, but the California Supreme Court overturned the sentence two years ago. Riccardi was resentenced last year to life without parole.
