Allman drops Ga. lawsuit against film producers

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Gregg Allman has agreed to drop his lawsuit against movie producers who were making a film based on the singer’s life when a freight train plowed into their Georgia crew and killed a camera assistant.

Attorneys for the Allman Brothers Band singer and Unclaimed Freight Productions told a Savannah judge Tuesday they reached an out-of-court agreement that includes dismissing the lawsuit. Attorneys on both sides declined to comment afterward on terms of the deal.

It wasn’t immediately known if the film project would move forward.

Production was just beginning on the film “Midnight Rider” when a train struck director Randall Miller’s crew on a railroad bridge Feb. 20. Six workers were injured and camera assistant Sarah Jones was killed.

Allman filed suit April 28 to prevent the director from reviving the project, saying his rights had lapsed.
