WASHINGTON – As summer starts to wind down, the D.C. region is buzzing with end-of-the-season events. From a Beatles tribute to wildlife debut, make sure to pound the pavement this Labor Day weekend.

Kick off the holiday with a bike ride Friday under the blue moon. D.C.’s BicycleSpace is celebrating its two-year anniversary with a free moonlit tour around the city starting at 8 p.m. Cyclists will gather at Beach Bar in Northwest for an after-party. Admission to that costs $7. Space is limited, so make sure to register online.

On Saturday, check out the National’s Zoo’s newest exhibit. Explore treasures of North American wildlife including seals, sea lions, eagles and wolves. American Trail opens at 12 p.m., but there will be a special preview for Friends of the National Zoo from 8 a.m. to noon.

Blues fans should head to Silver Spring Saturday from 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the 24th annual DC Blues Festival. Festivities are free and include performances by Sista Monica Parker, Sugar Ray & The Bluetones, Lionel Young Band, Clarence “The Blues Man” Turner and the DC Blues Society Band with Dr. Ayaba Bey. Swing by the free workshops and instrument petting zoo to learn more about playing music. Check the website for information.

Beatlemania hits the National Harbor Friday through Monday. Abbey Road on the River features more than 40 bands on five stages playing tunes by the Fab Four. Entry ranges from $25 to $120, so check the tickets website for more information.

Don’t miss the Maryland State Fair, which ends its two-week run Monday. Bring the whole family for some thoroughbred horse racing, pig racing and “Battle of the Beast” bull riding. Live music includes performances by Victoria Justice Friday night and The Band Perry Saturday. Click here for more details.
