Police: High school coach left son home alone

TRUMBULL, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut have charged the head coach of a high school boys’ basketball team with leaving his 4-year-old son home alone while he went to a gym to work out.

Authorities say 40-year-old Charles D. Clemons Jr., the coach at Harding High School in Bridgeport, was arrested Friday after an alarm went off at his Trumbull home and neighbors found his son wandering outside. The Connecticut Post (http://bit.ly/1sW0ket ) reports that Clemons was charged with risk of injury to a minor.

Police say Clemons’ wife and two other children left the home earlier.

Clemons and Bridgeport Athletic Director Neil Kavey declined to comment. Clemons’ lawyer says his client made a mistake and is taking responsibility for his actions.

Clemons was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Sept. 30.
