Sisters Courtney, Brittany Force top qualifying

SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — Sisters Courtney and Brittany Force topped qualifying Saturday in the NHRA Sonoma Nationals, the second time this season they have swept an event.

Courtney Force led the Funny Car field with her Friday pass of 4.045 seconds at 319.22 mph in a Ford Mustang, and Brittany Force’s Friday run of 3.762 at 325.53 held up in Top Fuel.

The daughters of Funny Car star John Force, they each qualified No. 1 in Topeka, Kansas, this year for a first for sisters. Courtney Force went on to win at Topeka for the 100th female victory in NHRA history, and won again last month in New Hampshire.

Shane Gray topped the Pro Stock field, and Jerry Savoie was the fastest in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Gray had a 6.539 at 212.13 in a Chevy Camaro, and Savoie ran a 6.810 at 197.86 on a Suzuki.

Also, Andrew Hines won the inaugural Pro Bike Battle to earn $25,000. The season points leader beat Scotty Pollacheck in the specialty bonus event final with a 6.835-second run at 196.02 on a Harley-Davidson.
