US Open at a glance _ Day 3

PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) — The third round of the U.S. Open at 7,562-yard, par-70 Pinehurst No. 2 at a glance (all times EDT):

LEADING: Martin Kaymer finally saw the same course that clobbered his opponents, shooting a 2-over 72 for an 8-under 202 total and a five-stroke lead.

PURSUING: Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton, a two-time, heart-transplant recipient, shot 67 to get to 3 under. Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson were another shot back.

WHERE’S PHIL? Falling fast. Mickelson, a runner-up at the U.S. Open a record six times, was 5 over after a 72.

KEY STAT: There were only two sub-par rounds all day, the lowest number in a third round since Oakmont at 2007.

NOTEWORTHY: Of the nine players topping the leaderboard at even-par or better, Kaymer is the only one with a major championship.
