Aspen Hill home invasion victims detain robber, 2 injured

WASHINGTON – One man was shot and a robber injured during a home invasion in Aspen Hill Sunday night, according to police.

Montgomery County police say three people tried to rob an apartment on Pear Tree Court after 9 p.m. Sunday. Five people were home at the time, including two young children.

Two of the robbers forced their way through the door and demanded money while the third acted as a lookout. A 26-year-old man was shot in the shoulder during a struggle with the robbers. One of the robbers was also injured, police say.

The victims restrained the injured robber, while the other two fled, until police arrived.

Police say Barrington D. Watts, 30 of Baltimore, was treated at the hospital for those injuries.

Watts was charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, first-degree assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The unidentified man who was shot did not suffer life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital, police.

Investigators believe there is some connection between the robbers and the residents of the apartment.
