Local Artist Painting Mural In Woodmont Triangle – A Bethesda artist is painting a triangle-filled mural across the back wall of an entire building on Auburn Avenue. Donohoe Development, which built the Gallery of Bethesda apartment building across from where the mural will go, hired Jordann Wine to create it. Eventually, Donohoe plans to build another apartment building on the site. But for now, the mural will complement the pedestrian plaza that serves the Gallery. [Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row]

Most Minority Students In MoCo Attend Majority-Minority Schools – Maps from the Urban Institute (which drew its data from the Department of Education) show a nationwide pattern of school student populations largely divided by race. The data shows that 90 percent of black students and 89 percent of Latino students in Montgomery County attend schools that are majority non-white. This, despite the county’s relatively diverse overall make-up of students — 34 percent of MCPS students are white, 21 percent are black and 26 percent are Latino, according to the data. Police Chief: Cops Would Never Use Armored Vehicles At A Protest – Montgomery County Police have three armored vehicles, including a mine-resistant truck they got from the federal government in July. But after protests in Ferguson, Mo., spurred a nationwide debate about the militarization of police, Police Chief Tom Manger said his department uses the surplus Defense Department equipment only when it should be used. Manger said you won’t see Montgomery County Police using the armored vehicles for a crowd control situation at a protest, a tactic that brought much criticism to police in Missouri. [The Gazette]
