Man Given 25 Years For Brutal Garage Beatdown Niccolo Manzanero, the Burtonsville man convicted in May of attempted second degree murder, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Monday. Manzanero was one of three men charged in the brutal beating of a man early on a Sunday morning in 2013 in the St Elmo/Cordell Garage in Woodmont Triangle. Prosecutors said the victim suffered severe head injuries and only survived because a passerby stepped in to stop the violence. [ABC7]

MoCo Taxi Drivers Join National Union – A group of Montgomery County taxi cab drivers in the Montgomery County Professional Drivers Union officially joined the National Taxi Workers Alliance of the AFL-CIO over the weekend. Peter Ibik, president of the local union, says the drivers felt the need to unionize because of low wages, high fees on credit card transactions and unethical business practices. [WAMU]

Pioneering Bethesda Attorney, Volunteer Football Coach Dies – Jeffrey Van Grack, the longtime attorney at Bethesda firm Lerch, Early & Brewer, died on Saturday after battling bladder cancer. Van Grack founded the firm’s Community Association practice, which today includes five attorneys and five paralegals who represent hundreds of community and homeowners associations, condominiums and cooperatives around the Washington region. Van Grack also volunteered as a high school football coach, including at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School — his alma mater. [Lerch, Early & Brewer]
