‘Pawn Shop Law’ Creating Problems At Big Retailers – A nearly 30-year-old Montgomery County law meant to stop thieves who stole goods then sold them to pawn shops for cash is hampering some customers’ ability to trade-in cell phones at major retailers. The law, passed in 1985, is stopping places such as Best Buy and Apple from giving store credits to customers who hope to trade-in old cell phones and tablets for the latest versions of the products. MoCo Raising Fees For Renting Out Building Space – Montgomery County’s Community Use of Public Facilities office, which rents out all gyms, classroom spaces and auditoriums in county schools, will raise its fees starting in July 2015. The office says the fee increase is necessary to cover an increased share of utility costs, higher credit card transaction fees and the resumption of cost of living increase payments for county employees.
