Chevy Chase Acura, downtown Bethesda

Fire Department Will Redevelop Station #6 – In a letter to the editor on Friday, representatives of the Bethesda Fire Department said they will share proposals to redevelop the station at Bradley Boulevard and Wisconsin Avenue with neighbors this summer. The group has also met with county planners working on the Bethesda Downtown Plan. Officials from the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad, who are seeking a special zoning exception for redevelopment at Battery Lane and Old Georgetown Road, have also met with planners. Those Were Fireworks – A few folks were surprised to hear thunder-like noise around Bethesda starting at at about 9:15 p.m. on Sunday. Those were early July 4 fireworks at the Bethesda Country Club’s annual celebration. [BCC’s Fireworks Spectacular]

More World Cup Specials For Tuesday’s Game – Add Food, Wine & Co. (7272 Wisconsin Ave.) to the list of Bethesda restaurants with world cup specials. For the U.S. vs. Belgium game at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the downtown restaurant will offer $1 drafts of Sam Adams Boston Lager and $5 fried chicken at the bar.

Franchot Continues Push To Extend Summer Vacations – Comptroller Peter Franchot is again campaigning for the first day of school to be pushed to after Labor Day in Maryland. Franchot argues against starting school before Labor Day as a way to boost the state’s tourism economy, among other reasons. [Center Maryland]
