AT&T Sets Up Temporary Cell Towers At Congressional

A COW, or cell tower on wheels from AT&T at this year's Quicken Loans National at Congressional Country Club, via AT&TCongressional Country Club in Bethesda essentially becomes a small city for the four days of Tiger Woods’ annual PGA tour stop.

This week, as crowds descend on the River Road course to see Woods’ return, AT&T has set up a system of cell phone and wi-fi infrastructure to help attendees keep up their mobile traffic.

The former title sponsor of the tournament that this is year is known as the Quicken Loans National will still be part of the event. AT&T set up two Cells on Wheels (COWs) to provide cell coverage for the upwards of 100,000 spectators who will likely roam Congressional. AT&T also set up more than 60 Wi-Fi antennas to make it easier for those at the tournament to text, tweet, take photos and shoot videos.

AT&T also set up a solar-powered mobile charging station that hooks up to devices from any phone carrier.

Phones are allowed at PGA Tour events, though golf etiquette obviously demands that you turn off or silence the devices if you’re in range of a player.
