Members of Congress, Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Montgomery County electeds will talk on Monday about how the upcoming Cedar Lane intersection project will improve Rockville Pike traffic.
On Tuesday, the State Highway Administration will outline to residents exactly how the project will affect them.
It will be a busy week of news about Cedar Lane, which the SHA will close just east of Rockville Pike for two months starting on June 6. SHA crews will create a dedicated turn lane on Cedar Lane and realign a culvert for the creek that runs under the road, part of a broader effort to ease traffic congestion brought on from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and NIH.
Cedar Lane will be closed for about 1,000 feet, from Rockville Pike east to Elmhirst Parkway.
On Monday morning, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Sen. Ben Cardin, County Executive Isiah Leggett, Brown and others will hold a press event at NIH to discuss how the approximately $300 million in federally funded intersection and road projects will ease traffic in the area.
On Tuesday starting at 6 p.m., the county’s BRAC Integration Committee will meet with SHA officials to get information on exactly what the Cedar Lane closure will mean and how it will work. Some neighbors have already expressed concerns that the closure will bring commuter traffic through their neighborhoods.
The SHA will bring maps to describe the closure and approved detour routes, with SHA personnel able to answer individual questions. The meeting is set for the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane).
