MCPS Could Change Rules On Sexual Orientation Lessons – The Board of Education on Tuesday will discuss moving away from scripted lessons with required phrasing on sexual orientation. The scripted lessons — which teachers say are ineffective — were put into place in 2005 after a federal judge stopped the school system’s lessons because the lessons didn’t offer the perspective of religions that consider homosexuality a sin. If the changes are made, scripted teaching of the topic would be gone by the start of next school year and sexual orientation would be taught to seventh grade classes instead of eighth grade classes.
