Bethesda Burrito Joint Offering ‘Guacapocalypse’ April Fools’ Special

Boloco, Bethesda RowBoloco, the fast casual burrito restaurant on Bethesda Row, is poking fun at its biggest competitor with an April Fools’ Day-inspired special:

“After 17 years of blissfully serving globally inspired burritos and bowls, often topped with scratch-made guacamole, boloco has (reluctantly) come to a sad truth: the Guacapocalypse is real. Even the big guys (ahem, Chipdoba) are in trouble.

“Boloco tried to source enough avocados at a reasonable price, but unfortunately, the price of avocados is just too high. The bottom line? boloco is sorry to announce that effective immediately, guacamole will be removed from its menu in all 22 locations. The fast casual restaurant will do everything it can to bring guacamole back to its menu and hopes its loyal customers will understand this decision was not made lightly.

“The official announcement will be made tomorrow at 8 a.m. and I would appreciate your discretion until that time. Any questions or concerns can be directed to Patrick Renna, CFO and interim CEO of boloco.”

That, of course, is a joke. Boloco will continue serving guacamole, but not before poking fun at Chipotle. The fast casual burrito giant caused an internet panic in March when it warned of rising avocado prices in a standard financial report.

In fact, anyone who goes to Boloco (4930 Elm St.) on Tuesday and says “guacapocalypse,” will be rewarded with $1 chips and guac or free guac on burritos and bowls.
