The Multicultural Outreach Committee and Future Vote Program (both from the county Board of Elections) will start conducting voter registration drives this weekend at libraries throughout the county, including at Bethesda Library (7400 Arlington Rd.).

The drives will go from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays throughout April. The 2014 gubernatorial primary is June 24.

Out of a registered 569,234 Montgomery County voters, 113,679 (or 20 percent) turned out for the 2010 primary. The 2006 primary saw a 27 percent voter turnout, or 138,848 out of 500,930 registered Montgomery County voters.

The 2006 general election, featuring the gubernatorial race between Democrat Martin O’Malley and incumbent Republican Robert Ehrlich, saw a 60 percent turnout countywide. In 2010, 51 percent of registered voters turned out for the rematch, though the number of registered county voters increased to 573,431 from 507,924.

With heated races for the Democratic gubernatorial and county executive nominations, many expect the focus this election cycle to be on the primary.

The vote drive will be at Bethesda Library on Saturday and Sunday. It will return to the area at Chevy Chase Library (8005 Connecticut Ave.) and Little Falls Library (5501 Massachusetts Ave.) on Saturday, April 12.

You can also catch it at the Davis Library (6400 Democracy Blvd.) on Saturday, April 26.
