Whitman Falls In State Championship Game — Whitman’s boys basketball team surprised man by winning its region and making it to the Class 4A state title game. Police Take 4 Into Custody After Gunfire In Chevy Chase — Montgomery County Police responded to the scene of gunshots Friday morning with a SWAT team, then later took four into custody in the 8400 block of Freyman Drive. No one was injured from the gunfire and police are trying to figure out why shots were fired. It was unclear if charges will be filed. [Washington Post]

Pines of Rome, Tommy Joe’s Properties Sold To Developer — Though no redevelopment plans are imminent, both Tommy Joe’s (4714 Montgomery Lane) and the Pines of Rome (4709 Hampden Lane) could be on thin ice. D.C.-based Douglas Development recently purchased both properties with plans to develop them together into a multi-story building. Pines of Rome has been in the spot for 41 years. Local Leaders To Talk Challenges, Opportunities of Purple Line — The Purple Line Corridor Coalition is hosting an all-day event of public speakers and break-out sessions on how the Purple Line will affect small businesses, affordable housing and other aspects of life around the region.
