Resources offered to frustrated pet owners

WASHINGTON – After a puppy’s brutal killing last week, Montgomery County, Md., officials are letting pet owners know that there is always an alternative to violence against animals.

Baltimore Police Officer Alec Eugene Taylor, who lives in Silver Spring, Md., is facing aggravated animal cruelty felony charges and charges of abuse or neglect of an animal after police say he killed his girlfriend’s 7-month old Jack Russel Terrier puppy and texted her a photo.

“The background seems to be the whole thing stems from a housebreaking situation,” says Captain Michael Wahl of the Montgomery County Police Animal Services.

Pet owners can call Animal Services at any time for help with behavioral issues their pet may have, he says, and can even surrender their pet if they feel frustrations could lead to violence against the animal.

“I think in this case, the dog would have been adopted very quickly had it come into our center,” Wahl says.
