Leggett, Duncan Face Off — In a candidates forum sponsored by the county teachers union on Wednesday, County Executive Isiah Leggett and challenger Doug Duncan faced off for the first time this campaign season. Duncan criticized Leggett’s leadership in getting school construction funding from the state and said this year’s major push in Annapolis is too late. Leggett said Duncan’s attack weren’t realistic. Anti-Pepco Advocate Opposes PSC Appointment — Abbe Milstein, the North Bethesda resident who started Powerupmontco, started a petition urging state senators not to approve Gov. Martin O’Malley’s appointment of energy executive Anne Hoskins to the state’s Public Service Commission. The PSC rules on rate increase requests and other cases involving utility companies in the state. Milstein argues that Hoskins’ connections within the utility industry make her the wrong choice for a position meant to oversee utility companies. [MoveOn.org]

Groups Accuse WSSC Of Polluting Potomac River — Environmental groups on Wednesday filed suit against the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, alleging it is discharging millions of pounds of sediment and aluminum into the Potomac River from its water filtration plant near Seneca. [The Gazette]
