Bethesda Driver Killed In 270 Crash — Sydney Prather, 53, was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Thursday night on I-270 near Frederick. Police say Prather drifted off the roadway into the median before overcorrecting and losing control of the vehicle. A car was struck and Prather’s vehicle hit an embankment and overturned. Beltway’s Most Dangerous Section? — Stats from the State Highway Administration say the windy four-mile stretch of the Beltway between Georgia Avenue and Rockville Pike had the highest average number of documented crashes per year. The stats are from a five-year count between 2008 and 2013 that recorded an annual average of 260 crashes in the stretch. There have been five fatal crashes there since 2008. [WTOP]

How Much Snow Does It Take To Cancel Snow — This map, from a Reddit user, uses census data, NOAA data and news reports to approximate how much snow it takes for each city or county in the U.S. to cancel school. Police Union Endorses Duncan — The Montgomery County Police Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 35 gave its county executive endorsement to Doug Duncan on Thursday, hardly a surprise considering the union’s fight with incumbent County Executive Isiah Leggett over police effects bargaining rights. Mother-Son “Date Knight” Returns — Chick-fil-A’s “Mother-Son Date Knight” is coming back to area locations. On Feb. 10, the fast food chicken joint will encourage moms and their sons to spend time together while enjoying “medieval-themed activities.” There are 11 spots left at the Westfield Montgomery Mall location.
