Great Montgomery Hackathon — The Montgomery County Civic Federation, Sunlight Foundation, Parents’ Coalition of Montgomery County and Montgomery County Taxpayers League will hold a hackathon in Bethesda with four projects in mind: a mobile web app for Ride On bus travel, a demographics tool, a service to help people submit and track Maryland Public Information Act requests and a database of Maryland lobbying activities. The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 and from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane). Whitman Coach Honored — Walt Whitman High School girls soccer coach Greg Herbert was named Maryland Girls Soccer Coach of the Year by the Maryland Association of Coaches of Soccer. Herbert’s team won the 4A state title in November. [Whitman Athletics]

Election Judges Needed — Montgomery County’s Board of Elections is looking for registered voters to serve as election judges at polling places for the June 24 Gubernatorial Primary. The Board is also looking for bilingual judges, especially judges who speak both English and Spanish. [Board of Elections]

White Flint Cell Phone Tower, Bike Sharrows Stalled? — A 145-foot tall emergency communications and cell phone tower at the Washington Gas depot on Nebel Street is apparently stalled. MCDOT also has not started a planned shared-use path and bicycle sharrow project on Woodglen Drive. That project is undergoing more technical design review. [Friends of White Flint]

Jaleo Debuts New Brunch Menu — Jose Andres’ Bethesda tapas restaurant (7271 Woodmont Ave.) will debut a new brunch menu on Saturday with churros, hot chocolate and other items including crispy ethereal bread brushed with tomato and topped with Spanish sardines. [Jaleo]
