Police attacked while breaking up underage party

WASHINGTON – Several police officers were allegedly attacked by people at an underage drinking party they were trying to break up early Sunday.

It happened in Damascus, where officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s Holiday Season Task Force went to a house on Damascus Road just before midnight Saturday after receiving a report of a party in progress. Police say they found several underage people with alcohol in the backyard and an estimated 35 more in the house.

According to a statement from the police, the homeowners wouldn’t let the officers in and several party-goers slammed a basement door on the arms of an officer during a struggle over some cases of beer. Meanwhile, according to the police, the homeowners assaulted two officers who were trying to enter the house while party-goers banged on the windows and shouted obscenities at the police.

Citations for alcohol-related offenses were given to 22 party-goers, and four people who lived in the house were charged with offenses ranging from furnishing alcohol to a minor to inciting a riot to trying to take an officer’s gun.

The police ask anyone with information about the incident to call the Montgomery County Police at 240-773-6600.
