A group of local artists will be featured in Gallery B’s first exhibition of 2014.

Cathy Kwart, Catherine Levinson, Bonny Lundy and Virginia Mahoney will show about 40 water-based paintings in the “New Works on Paper” exhibit, set for Jan. 9 to Feb. 1 at the Bethesda Urban Partnership’s downtown gallery.

The exhibit will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, with an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10. The reception will be held in conjunction with the monthly Bethesda Art Walk.

The four artists also did a collaborative group piece called “ZigZag.” Bios for each artist follow:

Cathy Kwart has exhibited at the Yellow Barn Gallery and the Popcorn Gallery in Glen Echo, MD, as well as at the Katzen Art Center in Washington, D.C. She says, “My love of color and design informs every composition. The juxtaposition of opposing colors and their interplay is a constant surprise even while planning the outcome of a painting. I am inspired by the evolution of the process and my constant journey.”

Catherine Levinson is a local artist living in Bethesda, MD. Her interest in art began when she attended the High School of Music and Art in New York. She received her undergraduate degree in art and taught high school art for several years. She also worked as an Exhibits Technician at the U.S. Weather Department in Washington, D.C. In the early 1960s she lived in Rio de Jainero where she studied art at the Museu de Arte Moderna. Levinson’s professional career has been in education and psychotherapy. She holds Master’s degrees in Special Education/Learning Disabilities and Social Work. In her work as a clinical social worker/psychotherapist with young children, Ms. Levinson used art extensively.

Bonny Lundy is a Maryland artist and art teacher. Her paintings are included in many private and public collections including the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Council on Aging and GEICO. Bonny has exhibited at Atlantic Gallery, Orchard Gallery, Discoveries Gallery, and Baber Art Gallery as well as in many U.S. juried competitions. Her art is currently on view at Pleasant View Studio in Brookeville, Maryland as well as on yellowbarnstudio.com and bonnylundy.com.
