Department Store Appeals White Flint Mall Decision — The legal saga between Lord & Taylor and White Flint Mall continues. The anchor store on Tuesday filed an appeal of last week’s U.S. District Court decision to allow the redevelopment of the Mall to go forward despite Lord & Taylor’s July lawsuit. Lord & Taylor claims the mall redevelopment violates the terms of its original lease agreement. White Flint Mall filed a counterclaim saying the department store is hoping to extract money from the developer just as it hopes to start the project. [Washington Business Journal]
Gansler Supporter Sues Over Campaign Fundraising — Gubernatorial candidate Anthony Brown’s running mate — Howard County Executive Ken Ulman — is not a statewide official. The state’s Board of Elections said that means Ulman can raise money during the upcoming legislative session, something Brown, Attorney General Doug Gansler and his running mate — Prince George’s County Delegate Jolene Ivey — can’t do. Gansler complained that means an unfair advantage for Brown. On Thursday, a politically connected lawyer and Gansler supporter filed suit to prevent Ulman from raising money during the session. Budget Forums — County Executive Isiah Leggett will sponsor five budget forums in January, including one at 7 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane). County staff is looking for input on the FY 2015 Operating Budget, which Leggett will submit to the County Council on March 17. [Montgomery County]
