It doesn’t look like the Bethesda Farm Women’s Market will be happening Friday.
On Thursday, a day after a patron accidentally rammed into the back of the building, the car remained next to the structure and the Montgomery County Department of Permitting deemed it structurally unsafe.
The inside portion of the market is open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. A book signing from celebrity chef Pati Jinich was scheduled for Friday at noon. A market representative couldn’t be reached Thursday.
The market opened in 1932, organized by farmers’ wives selling preserves, baked goods and produce.
It’s one of the oldest farm markets in the area, and a landmark in downtown Bethesda.
For Carol Carrier, who has run a flower stand inside the market for more than 35 years, it’s also vital to her business in the fall and winter. Carrier was in the market on Wednesday when the accident happened. No one was injured.
