One of two partial solar eclipses on Earth this year was visible during Sunday morning sunrise.

Reader Mike Landsman sent the above photos in of the eclipse over Bethesda. The partial eclipse was visible over much of the east coast for about 30 minutes on Sunday, long enough to break through some early morning cloud cover in our area.

It was a rare “hybrid eclipse,” meaning a few places saw an annular eclipse and a few saw a total eclipse at the same time.

The next total solar eclipse that will be visible in the U.S. won’t come until Aug. 21, 2017.
