Council Approves Pay Raise For Councilmembers — The Montgomery County Council on Tuesday approved a phased-in pay raise for members of the next Council that will raise pay to $136,258 a year by 2017, a total increase of 28 percent. Be Brave And Shave For Sickle Cell Disease — More than 175 people showed up at Congregation Beth El on Oct. 13 for the Be Brave and Shave event to benefit the Children’s National Health System. Giant Celebrates ‘Reopening’ — Giant Food officials recently celebrated a “reopening” of the Bethesda Row location by cutting a ribbon and making a $2,500 donation to homeless prevention nonprofit Bethesda Cares. Giant says the store got an expanded Grab and Go section near the deli section, six more check-out lines, and a redesigned meat, seafood and bakery department. The store never closed.
