Gun Advocates Sue Over New State Gun Laws — In a federal lawsuit filed Thursday, gun rights advocates hope to block Maryland’s new gun control laws from going into effect next week. Backyard Chicken Proposal Could Get Changed — The County Council Planning Committee recommended new rules for backyard chicken coops that would allow coops as close as 15 feet from a property line. But now County Health Officer Ulder Tillman says she’s concerned the coops could mean health risks. Tillman wrote a letter to Council President Nancy Navarro last week, citing an August report from the CDC about a salmonella outbreak linked to backyard poultry. The Planning Committee will revisit the chicken coop issue in its Zoning Code rewrite session on Friday morning. [Washington Post]
