Symmetry Salon Studios (4908 Hampden Lane) celebrated its recent arrival in Bethesda with a Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday morning.

The studio features individual salon suites managed entirely by stylists who order their own products, build their own client bases and pay rent. Co-owner Nanci Ruder said it’s a way for stylists to work without having to worry about management of their own studio space.

There’s room for 17 stylists who have a variety of specialties.

“The idea of individualized salons is becoming the norm,” Ruder said. “The stylists have a strong following. They run their own businesses and carry their own products. It’s their world, without the overhead.”

Ruder runs the business with her husband Tom and Jenifer Vincent.

It opened in May on top of the stairwell near The Shoppes of Bethesda. Ruder said it’s the first salon of its kind in Bethesda and the goal is to expand.
