Montgomery County Police think they have a chance to solve a recent Bethesda home burglary because of a unique batch of autographed sports memorabilia that was lifted from the house.
On a Saturday afternoon last month, 2nd District officers responded to the report of a burglary that had occurred earlier at a house in the 8900 block of Holly Leaf Lane, near Congressional Country Club.
The victim, apparently a big San Antonio Spurs fan, said the burglar stole a basketball signed by the 2005 Spurs NBA Championship team, a basketball signed by the 2007 Spurs NBA Championship team and two Spurs No. 21 jerseys signed by Tim Duncan, the two-time MVP.
The Spurs lost game 7 of this year’s NBA Finals to the Miami Heat on June 20. The burglary occurred on June 22, sometime before cops were called to the house at 1:38 p.m., making it a week we can only guess the homeowner would like to forget.
A Tim Duncan-signed jersey sells on the internet for $100 or as much as $1,000. A “2005 Spurs Championship Team Signed Ball” is on sale on eBay right now for $800 with a starting bid price of $400.
Because the items stolen are so unique, detectives are asking anyone who may have information about the whereabouts of the stolen property to call the 2nd District Investigative Section at 301-657-0112.
