Franchot Not Optimistic About Bethesda Metro South Entrance — The Maryland Board of Public Works last week approved $2.3 million in engineering funding for the Bethesda Metro South Entrance project, but not before Comptroller Peter Franchot (D) said “Let me know if the South Entrance ever gets built,” expressing skepticism about the project. It’s supposed to connect the Bethesda Metro station to the future Purple Line station at Elm Street. Montgomery County will fund its construction, though County Executive Isiah Leggett earlier this year recommended delaying funding because of uncertainty surrounding the light rail system. Fixing Traffic Problems On The American Legion Bridge — Traffic on the only connection between Montgomery and Fairfax Counties has increased even as the number of local daily commuters has fallen. Research suggests this is because of more long-distance commuters from outer-suburban counties. This blogger suggests building an outer crossing will only lead to more development and more traffic.
