BOWA is the presenting sponsor of the 13th annual event, which will start at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday with a pre-race warm-up. The race will start at 8 a.m. at the Potomac Village Library parking lot (10101 Glenolden Dr., Potomac).

It also includes a “virtual 5K” initiative, which allows people to participate in the event wherever they are. Last year’s virtual participants included people across the U.S., in Canada, Croatia and on a military base in Afghanistan.

The event includes a post-race celebration with food, music, prizes and children’s activities. BOWA principal Steve Kirstein is a board member with the National Capital Area chapter of Autism Speaks, an advocacy organization that sponsors autism research and does outreach work.

The standard adult 5K registration fee is $35. The standard child 5K registration fee is $15.
