Fire forces evacuation of 400 at Hyatt Regency Bethesda

WASHINGTON – A fire at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda forced the evacuation of 400 people early Monday, and shut down Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda for several hours.

The 1 a.m. fire started in the electrical room of the hotel’s parking garage.

Montgomery County police say one contractor sustained critical injuries.

The guests were taken to Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School before being taken to other hotels.

The fire was contained to the electrical room.

Southbound Wisconsin Avenue was blocked south of Old Georgetown Road for several hours.
