Md. man charged in Family Dollar armed robbery

WASHINGTON – A 21-year-old Maryland resident was arrested for a Nov. 28 armed robbery at the Family Dollar store located at 13817 Outlet Dr. in the Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring.

During the evening robbery, the semi-masked suspect displayed a handgun and demanded cash from store employees. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the store, and the suspect fled on foot.

According to Montgomery County police, detectives from the Major Crimes Division developed 21-year-old Kairee Deyonte Dorsey as a suspect for the robbery and set up surveillance in the area of his residence.

Dorsey was later located by police, but fled on foot. During the pursuit, an officer discharged their weapon. Dorsey continued to flee but was apprehended a short time later. No one was injured during the incident.

After further investigation, detectives were able to recover the handgun used by Dorsey during the robbery, as well as proceeds taken from the store.

Dorsey was charged with first-degree assault and armed robbery and is currently being held on bond awaiting a December court date.

Per protocol, the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division and Internal Affairs Division will conduct their investigations regarding this incident. The officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on paid, administrative leave, which is also standard protocol.
