Police looking for suspect who beat 72-year-old Silver Spring man

WASHINGTON – Montgomery County police are looking for the suspect who beat a 72- year-old man near his residence in Silver Spring.

The victim, Candelario Guevara-Guzman, is in the hospital with critical injuries and has not been able to speak with detectives. Police say they believe the incident occurred between 8 p.m. Monday – when Guevara-Guzman left to go shopping – and 2:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Guevara-Guzman’s sons, who live with their father, were walking home from a convenience store at 3:30 a.m. when they saw their father on the ground in the 8600 block of Garland Avenue, police say. The location is about a two-minute walk from Guevara-Guzman’s residence.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 301-565-5835 or the anonymous tip line at 1-866-411-8477. Crime Solvers will pay a reward up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
