Bogaerts activated from 7-day concussion list

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have activated shortstop Xander Bogaerts from the seven-day concussion list and optioned right-hander Anthony Ranaudo to Single-A Greenville.

The moves were announced before Saturday night’s game at Tampa Bay.

Bogaerts missed six games after being hit in the head by a pitch from Seattle’s Felix Hernandez on Aug. 22.

Ranaudo, who won his third game in as many starts this season by beating the Rays 8-4 on Friday night, can return to the Red Sox after Greenville’s season ends Monday.

Red Sox manager John Farrell says “there’s quite a bit of possibility” that the team will go to a six-man rotation in September due to a combination of workload and the opportunity to evaluate pitchers like Ranaudo.
