Cubs reinstate SS Castro from bereavement list

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Chicago Cubs reinstated shortstop Starlin Castro from the bereavement list in time to start Tuesday night’s game against the Reds.

Infielder Logan Watkins was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, making room on the roster for Castro, who hasn’t played since Aug. 19.

Castro went on the bereavement list on Aug. 21 to attend the funerals in the Dominican Republic of a relative and three friends who were killed in a car accident.

“He looks like he’s in a good place,” manager Rick Renteria said. “He’s doing fine.”
