Twins recall first baseman Kennys Vargas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Minnesota Twins recalled first baseman Kennys Vargas from Double-A New Britain on Thursday.

Vargas, who turns 24 Friday, hit .281 with 17 doubles, 17 home runs and 63 RBIs in 97 games with New Britain. He has a career .288 average in the minors and has never played in the majors.

Vargas takes the roster spot of outfielder Sam Fuld, who was traded to Oakland for left-handed pitcher Tommy Milone. Milone will report to Triple-A Rochester.
