Giants pitching coach Righetti out with vertigo

MIAMI (AP) — San Francisco Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti is expected to miss their seven-game trip after experiencing a case of vertigo that prompted the team’s plane to make an unscheduled landing in Las Vegas so he could receive medical attention.

The plane was en route to Miami when it was diverted Thursday to Las Vegas. Righetti, who had been battling a virus, was hospitalized overnight and was expected to rejoin the Giants when they return home next Friday.

“He’s feeling a lot better,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “The tests were coming out fine, which is good news.”

The Giants began their trip with a three-game series at Miami on Friday night.
