Medevac helicopter flashed by laser pointer

MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police say a medevac helicopter returning from a mission was flashed several times by a laser pointer while it was flying over Mount Airy.

Police say Trooper 3, a helicopter based in Frederick, was returning to its home base Sunday evening when a green flash lighted up the cockpit. The craft received three more flashes.

Police say the crew landed safely and was able to identify the residence from which the flashes came. Patrol troopers went to the home.

Investigators say a 12-year-old boy had shined a green handheld astronomy laser at the helicopter. State and federal authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
