Prince George’s officer suspended for theft charge

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — A Prince George’s County police officer has been suspended after being charged with theft in Anne Arundel County.

Prince George’s County police said Saturday that Officer Temitope Asaya was suspended after being charged Friday. The officer was off duty at the time of the alleged theft.

Anne Arundel County police say the 30-year-old officer was charged with theft, along with a 24-year-old woman. They are suspects in a Sept. 12 incident at the Apple Store in Annapolis Mall. Detectives say surveillance video shows the suspects taking a woman’s iPad that she had accidentally left on a display case.

Prince George’s County officials say Asaya has been employed by the police department for four years. He is suspended with pay, pending a hearing.

A telephone number listed for Asaya was disconnected.
